Conwoman poses as police commissioner’s niece

A woman allegedly duped a South Delhi-based chartered accountant of Rs 6 lakh by posing as Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal’s relative and assuring the victim of a seat in a “reputed university” for his son.

A woman allegedly duped a South Delhi-based chartered accountant of Rs 6 lakh by posing as Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal’s relative and assuring the victim of a seat in a “reputed university” for his son.

The victim,Ashwani K Gautam,works in an office at Bhikaji Cama Place.

Police sources said the incident came to Dadwal’s knowledge when Gautam approached his office recently.

Commissioner Dadwal forwarded the complaint to South district officers for a detailed inquiry on November 18,a source said.

In his complaint,Gautam said a woman,who claimed her name was Neera Dadwal and that she was the police commissioner’s niece,met him last month and assured him she could help his son get admission in a reputed university if he paid Rs 6 lakh.

Gautam paid the money,but later realising he had been taken for a ride and approached the police.

Gautam,in his written complaint to the police chief,said the accused claimed to run an NGO,called ‘Itiya’,which was on its way to get a VIP as its trustee. She also claimed to know a few ministers,according to an officer.

The police are now looking into the matter and are trying to trace the woman.

Joint Commissioner (South) Ajai Kashyap said,“There might have been such a complaint but I don’t remember it off hand.”

The police chief was unavailable for comment.
