A 38-year-old constable allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver near Badarpur,South Delhi,at 5.30 pm on Thursday. Police said constable Vinod was posted with personal security of Jitin Prasada,Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways. Police said Vinod was depressed over an illness. He lived with his family in Sultanpur.
Quash Iqbal’s plea on Old Delhi mosque
New Delhi: The Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) on Thursday filed an application in the Delhi High Court seeking dismissal of Matia Mahal MLA Shoaib Iqbal’s plea to restrain the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) from razing the illegal structure at Subhash Park near Jama Masjid.
Engineer assaulted at DND toll plaza
Noida: An unidentified man assaulted a Tech Mahindra engineer at the DND toll plaza in Noida on Wednesday evening. A police officer said,Around 7.30 pm at the DND toll plaza,Kaushal Soram was slapped thrice. He did not have change and gave a Rs 100 note to pay the Rs 22 toll. The cash collector did not have change and took time to let Sorams vehicle go. Soram said a Toyota Fortuner car waiting behind Sorams Swift kept honking. The driver of the SUV slapped Koram thrice. Police said they had registered a case and were checking CCTV footage to trace the assailant.
CM launches schedule for Delhi Celebrates
New Delhi: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday released a calender of events of Delhi Celebrates,which showcases the countrys diversity and Delhis culture through a series of events spread across the Capital. Delhi Celebrates will continue till July 2013. The third instalment of Delhi Celebrates boasts of attractions in dance,music,theatre,poetry,food festivals,lectures and films.
Traffic to be diverted for Mandir Marg subway
New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is going to build a subway at the Mandir Marg-Peshwa Road junction. Traffic will be diverted from Friday. As per the diversion plan,traffic movement on Mandir Marg will be one-way from Kali Bari intersection to Panchkuian Road. The area in front of NP Boys Senior Secondary School and Harcourt Butler Senior Secondary School will be barricaded. Access to Mandir Marg from Panchkuian Road and from Park Street/Kali Bari Marg will be provided through a U-turn at both ends, an official said.
HC orders CRPF to reinstate constable
New Delhi: Observing that ostracising a person involved in petty offences breeds criminality,the Delhi High Court has ordered paramilitary force CRPF to reinstate a woman constable,sacked for allegedly concealing her involvement in a minor crime before taking up the job. Research shows that criminality is bred if a person who commits a minor offence is ostracised by society and is denied public employment, said a bench of justices Pardeep Nandrajog and Manomohan Singh.
