Constable found murdered in Bawana

He was serving as a constable in the security unit deployed at the Supreme Court. But police said he had not reported for duty for the last five days.

A 35-year-old police constable was murdered and his body left near a car in Outer Delhi’s Bawana area on Saturday. Police suspect it to be a case of personal enmity and they have detained several friends and associates of the constable for questioning.

According to police, constable Sandeep Kumar’s body was found near a silver Maruti SX4 on the interior road intersecting Bawana-Kanjhawala road. At about 5.30 am, a passer-by noticed that the car had bloodstains on its bonnet. He went near the car and found the body of a man lying on the road. He then made a PCR call.

“The body bore stab wounds on the neck, a deep injury made by a blunt object to the head, and more injuries on other parts. Prima facie, it appears a knife and a rod were used to commit the crime though the weapons have not been recovered from the site.

“Sandeep’s body was sent to a nearby hospital where an autopsy will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death. A case of murder has been registered at Kanjhawala police station,” said DCP (Outer) Vikramjit Singh.

Police said Sandeep was a resident of Kanjhawala village. His father, a Delhi police personnel, died in 2000. Sandeep was enlisted in the police force on compassionate grounds.

He was serving as a constable in the security unit deployed at the Supreme Court. But police said he had not reported for duty for the last five days.

“The car, near which his body was found, belongs to a friend of his. We have detained him for questioning along with some of his friends and neighbours. We have some leads. It seems to be a case of personal enmity and a crime committed on the spur of the moment,” said a senior police officer.
