Over a dozen people, who had come to enjoy an afternoon of gaming, had a narrow escape after ‘Mystery Rooms’ — a theme-based adventure game zone — at M Block of Connaught Place caught fire on Sunday, said officials.
Delhi Fire Services Chief Atul Garg said that they received a call about the fire on Sunday afternoon, adding that five fire tenders were deployed to douse the fire at the game arcade. The blaze was doused within 20 minutes, following which, a cooling operation was carried out.
A fire officer said: “Prima facie, the cause of the fire seems to be a short circuit in the electricity board of the two-storey building… necessary fire safety equipment at the game zone are in place, but there is only one fire exit on the front side… Since not many people were present inside the arena when the fire broke out, it was not a big problem.”
Many of the visitors, who were present at the game arcade in the afternoon, had already come out before the fire personnel could reach the spot, fire department officials said.
One man, who was said to be trapped inside the game parlour, managed to escape after some time, they added.
