Rs 31-cr project for flood prevention
The Delhi government on Tuesday finalised a project worth Rs 31 crore to construct embankments and high walls in low-lying areas. Stating that the step was taken in view of the floods that occurred last year,Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the project would be put before the Cabinet for approval soon. Last year,several areas in East Delhi were flooded. We have finalised a plan to prevent a similar situation from occurring this year, Dikshit said.
Blueline conductor crushed to death
A 23-year-old bus conductor was crushed to death by the same Blueline bus he worked for in Northwest Delhi on Tuesday. Sources said the victim,Kanhaiya,lost balance and fell when the vehicle suddenly started moving. Though he was rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital,he was declared brought dead. The driver is absconding.
HC upholds order on Majnu Ka Tila
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday upheld a single judge order directing the Election Commission to declare MCD ward Majnu Ka Tila in North Delhi as vacant and hold fresh elections for the post of councillor. The court dismissed appeals filed by Vikas,a Congress candidate,and Satish Kumar,a BJP candidate,which challenged the decision.
HC allows plea on live-in relationship
The Delhi High Court has allowed the plea of a married man,the father of two daughters,to live with a woman other than his wife. It also granted him police protection as he feared retribution from his wifes family. The girl is above 18 years of age,and she has chosen a path for herself to live with a married man. It is her life. the court said.
