Sheila writes to MHA about NDMC rejig
It might have been an innocuous move to restructure a municipal body,but a Union Cabinet proposal to streamline the New Delhi Municipal Council has left Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit fuming for the adverse political implication it carries for her. An angry Dikshit shot off a strongly worded letter to the Union Home Ministry last week objecting to the proposal,wary that the move could provide much needed opening for her bete noire Ajay Maken,at present Minister of State for Home Affairs at the Centre.
Towers sealed,mobile services likely to be hit
Cellular services in the Capital are likely to be hit with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi sealing 24 unauthorised mobile towers in the South and Central zones on Wednesday. The agency plans to continue the sealing drive through this week. Telecom operators have,meanwhile,refused to pay the hiked installation charge of Rs 5 lakh to regularise 1,532 unauthorised cellphone towers for which show-cause notices have been issued by the civic body. Operators have now said they will approach the Delhi High Court on Thursday to seek a stay order against the sealing action.
HC says Anganwadi staff not doing their job
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday rapped the state governments Department of Social Welfare for the tragic situation prevailing in its Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS),popularly known as Anganwadis. Hearing a petition over utilisation of funds received by the state from the Centre as also the Budget under the ICDS,a Division Bench of acting Chief Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice Mukta Gupta expressed their strong displeasure over the manner in which Anganwadis were working though the department had around 13,500 workers.
