Sub-Inspector killed in hit-and-run case
A Sub-Inspector of the Delhi Police was killed in a hit-and-run case in North Delhi’s Civil Lines area on Sunday morning. The police have not been able to trace the vehicle which hit the officer as there is no eyewitness. The incident was reported from the Ridge Road leading towards the Kishanganj police post near Tis Hazari courts around 6.40 am. Devender Singh,in his late 30s,was reportedly heading towards the post,where he is in charge,on his motorcycle. His body has been sent for post mortem. Singh was a native of Muzaffarnagar in UP and is survived by his wife and two children. A case under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) has been registered.
Two held for robberies
Two youths,including one who contested local body elections in UP,were arrested for their alleged involvement in a number of house robberies. Sitaram (26),from Moradabad,and his accomplice Akhilesh (25) were apprehended on Saturday following a tip-off ,said V Renganathan,Deputy Commissioner of Police (West). Ram had contested the recent Block Development Council elections in UP and Akhilesh was recently released from jail after three years for involvement in robbery and attempt to murder cases.
Two snatchers arrested
Two men,one of whom had recently pushed an MBA aspirant off a flyover in East Delhi during a snatching attempt,were arrested in Outer Delhi,the police said on Sunday. Navin alias Goldy had tried to snatch the bag of Madhumita near Karkari More flyover on January 15. Navin and the receiver of stolen property were arrested from Rohini on Saturday. With their arrest,five gold chains have been recovered and six cases of snatching have been solved,police said.
