A college student and a schoolboy were arrested on Monday in connection with the kidnap and murder of two-year-old Yaksh Dikshit on July 23.

Police nab students for toddler’s murder

Ghaziabad:A college student and a schoolboy were arrested on Monday in connection with the kidnap and murder of two-year-old Yaksh Dikshit on July 23. Police said they kidnapped Yaksh from near his home in Ghaziabad’s Vijaynagar area around 10 am and killed him half an hour later. They threw the body in Hindon river and called Yaksh’s father,a driver,for ransom without specifying the amount,police said. They were traced from the phone call.

Cabinet nod to food security scheme

New Delhi:The Delhi cabinet on Monday approved Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s Annashree Yojana,which aims to provide food security to 200,000 families. A monthly food subsidy of Rs 600 will be given to the senior-most woman of families eligible for the scheme.”This will go a long way in making Delhi a hunger-free state,” Dikshit said.

New Delhi:Parking lots at Delhi Metro stations will remain closed from 2 pm on Tuesday till 2 pm the next day because of security arrangements for Independence Day.

HC seeks rules for ailing Tihar inmates

New Delhi:The Delhi High Court on Monday asked the Union and state governments to respond to a widow’s plea for guidelines for treatment of Tihar inmates suffering from cancer and AIDS. Neha Singh,whose husband died of cancer in Tihar in August 2010,had accused the jail authorities of “criminal negligence”. “Something needs to be done for differential treatment of patients suffering from chronic diseases,” the court said.

Did overspeeding cause e-way crash?

Noida: Police officers met officials of Jaypee to know if the Maruti Esteem that crashed into the central divider on Yamuna Expressway on Sunday was driven at speed above the prescribed limit of 100 kmph. Jaypee officials said it could not ascertained because the system to detect the speed during crashes on the expressway was not fully up and running. They said this would begin functioning from Tuesday. The two persons injured in the accident are said to be in a critical condition.
