New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday criticised the CBI for delaying the hearings in an appeal filed by Nithari serial rape and murder convict Surinder Koli against his death sentence. “This is not a high school where you can come out with lame excuses like ‘Sir,my cycle tyre has punctured so there is a delay’. It is a question of life and death. The person is on the death row. You cannot delay it indefinitely,” a Bench of Justices Markandya Katju and Gyan Sudha Mishra said when CBI counsel T A Khan sought more time to file documents.

2 Nigerians assaulted over ‘kidnap’ bid

New Delhi: Two Nigerian nationals were caught and assaulted by residents of North Delhi’s Burari area for allegedly attempting to kidnap a seven-year-old girl on Tuesday night. Sources said the two were spotted running with a screaming child in their arms. “Locals chased them. They were beaten up and handed over to the police,but no case has been registered yet.The Nigerian Embassy is being contacted,” said a senior police officer.

IT-SEZ okayed for Greater Noida

lucknow: A committee headed by UP Chief Secretary Atul Gupta has cleared a proposal for an IT-Special Economic Zone in Greater Noida. To be spread over one lakh square metre,it will be developed by Delhi-based Artha Infratech Pvt Ltd. The proposal will now be sent to the Centre for final approval. This is the first SEZ application that the UP government has received in two years. Artha Infratech has promised investment of Rs 600 crore in the SEZ. It will come up in Sector Tech Zone IV of Greater Noida.
