Six injured by speeding car
Six persons were injured when a Chevrolet Optra ran over them near Yashoda Dairy at New Rajender Nagar in Central Delhi on Wednesday night,the police said. A senior police official said the speeding car was allegedly driven by one Sanjay Saini,who has been arrested. A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against him,while the injured have been rushed to Gangaram Hospital. The official said a medical examination will be conducted to ascertain whether Saini was under the influence of alcohol.
Two policemen suspended on judges complaint
Two policemen have been suspended after an Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate complained to Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal that they refused to take a 11-year-old boy to hospital after he was hit by an unknown vehicle.
The judge,Lokesh Kumar Sharma,stopped at the scene of the accident in Mundka on June 1 and pleaded with the policemen to take the rush to hospital,but to no vail. He said the 15 minutes wasted by the cops could have saved the boys life. After receiving the judges complaint,Dadwal ordered an inquiry and suspended constables Yudhvir and Anand Singh.
Police sources said the boy has been identified as Mahendra Kumar (11),son of Pradeep Kumar,who works at a cloth factory in Mundka.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sharad Aggarwal said a case of rash and negligent driving has been lodged at the Nangloi station.
Within rights to ask DERC for advice: CM
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday said her office had the right to ask the DERC for statutory advice before the tariff order is released. Uncontrollable costs should be recovered speedily to ensure that future consumers are not burdened with past costs, she said in a statement on Wednesday. Meanwhile,accusing the government and private power distribution companies of cheating the people of Delhi,the BJP said it will soon launch a series of agitational programmes to press for a cut down in tariff as suggested by the power regulator.
Consumer panel heads to get perks like judges
Allowing the plea of the heads of the district consumer courts,the High Court has directed the Delhi government to pay for their power and transport expenses as it does in cases of trial court judges. In an order passed last week,Justice S Muralidhar told the government to reimburse all bills pertaining to water,electricity and petrol expenses of all presidents and members of the district consumer disputes redressal fora in the city as per the Delhi Consumer Protection (DCP) rules.
