Congress MLA gets three years in jail for attempt to murder
A Delhi court on Tuesday awarded a three-year jail term to Dayanand Chandila,the Congress MLA from Rajouri Garden,and three others in a seven-year-old attempt to murder case. Additional Sessions Judge V K Bansal also imposed a fine of Rs 60,000 each on the convicts. The court,however,granted them bail on furnishing a personal and surety bond of Rs 30,000 each. It had on Friday convicted Chandila,Nawab Singh,Meghraj and Manoj under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and other provisions of the Indian Penal Code. An FIR was registered with the Tilak Nagar police station on December 11,2003,on a complaint by one Sudesh Chandela alleging that the accused had tried to kill him following a quarrel over lending money to a man.
Two injured as students clash in Jamia
Two students were injured in a fight between two groups at the Jamia Millia Islamia late on Tuesday night. While details remain sketchy,sources in the Delhi Police said two students had a fight in the universitys main library over a minor issue and this blew up into a major clash. The accused,accompanied by a group of armed students,arrived outside the victims hostel and asked him to come out. This led to the clash, a police official said,adding that the condition of one of the injured is said to be critical. The police sources said they are now investigating a complaint filed by two students,Shahdab and Ahmed Ali Khan.
