The police filed a chargesheet against three persons mastermind Shivraj Puri and co-accused Sanjay Gupta and Gaurav Jain in the Citibank fraud case on Tuesday.
Confirming the development,Commissioner of Police S S Deswal said,We filed chargesheets against the three accused. Investigations will continue in the case.
Newsline had earlier reported that police were preparing the chargesheet,a 5,000-page document.
It is mandatory to file the chargesheet within 90 days of taking the accused into remand,so we did it. There is nothing new in it,said Commissioner Deswal, when asked if any new points have been included in the chargesheets.
All the three accused in the case are currently in jail. A city court had recently dismissed the second bail application of chartered accountant and Citibank fraud co-accused Sanjay Gupta.
The court had observed that banking transactions showed money transfers to the tune of Rs 20 crore. This implied that Gupta was involved in the corporate scam, and hence, his second bail plea had been dismissed.
The alleged mastermind,Shivraj Puri, had reportedly fabricated a circular of the Securities and Exchange Board of India to lure corporates and high net-worth individuals. They had lost as much as Rs 460 crore in the alleged fraud.
The city court had rejected Guptas bail plea on an earlier occasion too.
A resident of Palam Vihar in Gurgaon,Gupta is currently lodged at Bhondsi Jail.
