Four persons have been arrested for committing three robberies,including two in high-security Chanakyapuri area,in the early hours of Monday.
Newsline had reported about the two robberies in Chanakyapuri on Tuesday.
Also on Monday morning,around 4.30 am,the same gang abducted a Mumbai-based man from his taxi in Jhandewalan area and forced him to withdraw Rs 50,000 with his two debit cards.
The arrested persons have been identified as Ravi Verma,Parveen Kumar Sah,Sachin and Jamna Ram. A fifth suspect,one Anup,is still absconding,officers said.
At 1.25 am on Monday,the four allegedly stopped a taxi (DL-1T-5956) headed from IGI Airport towards Majnu Ka Tila and snatched the bag from the passenger,Belgium national Wittock Patricia. According to Patricia,the bag had an iPod and a camera. She did not register a case since she had to leave the city the following morning.
Within minutes,the gang stopped an autorickshaw at Gymkhana Club and snatched about Rs 15,000 and three mobile phones from the two passengers.
Later the same night,the suspects reportedly stopped and looted Mumbai resident Karjigi Palakshi,who was on his way from a hotel in Nabi Karim area to the airport. The police said they used a Maruti Van this time and waylaid the victims taxi near the roundabout towards Mandir Marg.
The assailants first took Rs 1,200,a mobile phone and ATM cards and then asked the victim for the PIN of his debit cards. After Palakshi refused,the suspects abducted him in their van and took him to Daryaganj. They stopped at an ATM and withdrew Rs 50,000 from his two cards.
A case of robbery has been lodged,the police said.
