A Tata Safari car was set on fire and its driver beaten up allegedly by a group of five persons in Southeast Delhis Jamia Nagar area on Friday night.
Police said the group was in a Scorpio car and were trying to overtake the Safari. They said this was a case of road rage,as the persons in the Scorpio were allegedly angered when the driver of the Safari,Firoz,did not give them way. The incident was reported at 12.38 am.
Police said when the Safari driver didnt give them way,the group stopped the Safari and beat up the driver. The FIR states that the fight went out of control and the Safari,along with a JCB machine in the vicinity,was set on fire.
Police reached the spot and informed the Fire department,which sent fire tenders to the spot.
Police said Firoz was on his way home. In a statement to the police,he said the Scorpio was tailing his car and wanted way.
He said the occupants eventually started to race with him.
The SUV finally overtook the car and the accused dragged the victim out of his Safari and beat him up. The accused then set his car on fire, a police officer said.
Firoz then informed the police. When police reached the spot,the Safari and the JCB machine were charred. Firoz was then taken to hospital for a medical examination,and was discharged after first-aid.
Police said the accused persons are on the run,and a case has been registered. Police are also investigating if there was any enmity between the accused persons and the victim. No arrest has been made so far.
