Burglary in Defence Colony
Burglars struck at the house of a senior Central government employee in Defence Colony on the New Year’s Eve and escaped with goods worth several lakhs,including jewellery,laptop and cash. The police said M Subramanium and his family members were out when the assailants struck. The burglars entered the house after breaking the front door’s lock. A case has been registered.
Youth kills self
A 22-year-old call centre employee committed suicide on Thursday night in Kalkaji. The victim,Vikas,had recently got married to a colleague,the police said,adding that the body has been sent for postmortem at AIIMS.
Civic body to deploy mobile health units free of cost
New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has given the green signal to the proposal for the deployment of free of cost Mobile Health Units,which will focus on semi- urban and slum areas.
The civic body,which gave the nod to the proposal in the MCD Standing Committee meeting on Wednesday,will rope in a private trust for procurement of over 250 mobile health units before the Commonwealth Games.
According to the proposal,the civic agency will enter into an agreement with the Keshav Dharmarth Trust,which will implement the project free of cost.
The project will be implemented by the trust on a Build-Own-Operate basis. Under the plan,the trust will provide the health units comprising 24 mobile health ambulances,105 mobile health clinics and several mobile health hospitals, an MCD official said.
The units will be provided for three years from the date of roll out. The civic body will not be incurring any expenditure on the project, added the official. In order to make the project sustainable,the trust,after specified hours of free service,will utilise these units for various purposes including ambulatory services at approved CATS tariff.
Robbery attempt at Khanpur bank
Unidentified assailants allegedly tried to barge in and rob a Khanpur bank branch in Neb Sarai area on Thursday night. According to the police,the incident took place at 3 am. The police were informed when officials of the Union Bank of India opened it on Friday. The bank has two entrances; the assailants tried to sneak in from the back one. They couldnt do it for about an hour and then fled, a senior police officer said. A case has been registered at the Neb Sarai police station and further probe is on.
Woman found dead
A 22-year-old woman from Agartala,Tripura,allegedly committed suicide at her rented accommodation in Safdarjung Enclave in South Delhi. Police officials said the victims body was found hanging in her room by a male friend,who lived with her,on Thursday evening. The police said the woman,identified as Rani,was alone at home when she allegedly took the step. Prima facie it looks like a suicide. No suicide note has been recovered and the motive is not clear yet, a senior police official said.
More counters for subsidised flour
Buoyed by the success of its initiative to sell wheat flour and pulses at subsidised rates,the Delhi government has now decided to add 210 more counters across the city,in addition to the existing 132 counters set up in the Kendriya Bhandaars,circle offices and cooperative stores like Mother Dairy outlets.
MCD campaign for cleaner Delhi
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has decided to launch a multimedia advertisement campaign entitled Lets get ready to create civic awareness among people in the Capital ahead of the Commonwealth Games. The agency plans to launch around 600 hoardings that will be put up at MCD commercial sites and bus kiosks. The TV and radio campaigns are already on air.
Car stereo thief held
The police have arrested a car stereo thief who targeted cars only in upscale colonies like South Extension,Safdarjung Enclave and Green Park. The police have identified the accused as Ishtyak Khan,a resident of Ghaziabad,and claimed to have solved 22 cases of stereo thefts.
During investigation,we found that the accused Ishtyak had been trying dispose of stolen music systems in Ghaziabad. Ishtyak was arrested fllowing a tip-off, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South),HGS Dhaliwal said.
22-yr-old murdered
A 22-year-old man,identified as Kunal Kumar,was found with severe head injuries in Ridge area close to Sangam Vihar. The victim died on the way to the All India Instiute of Medical Science. Police identified the deceased on the basis of the mobile phone found on him. Kumar was pursuing an English-speaking course in an institute close his residence in Katwaria Sarai. A case of murder has been registered at Sangam Vihar police station and further probe is on.
