Cable snag disrupts Metro Blue Line services

This is the second time in a month that an OHE transmission line has snapped off on the Noida City Centre/Vaishali-Dwarka line.

Metro services on the Blue Line (Noida City Centre/Vaishali-Dwarka Sector 21) were affected for over two hours on Wednesday evening after a wire on the overhead electric (OHE) transmission lines snapped between Dwarka and Dwarka Mor stations, a Delhi Metro official said.

This is the second time in a month that an OHE transmission line has snapped off on the Noida City Centre/Vaishali-Dwarka line. The same had happened in May.

“The wire snapped around 7 pm. While the repair work was on, only one line was operational between Dwarka and Janakpuri West and a short loop was operational between Janakpuri West and Rajiv Chowk. Normalcy was restored on the line around 9.15 pm,” a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation spokesperson said.

According to CISF officials, metro stations such as Barakhamba Road, Rajiv Chowk and Karol Bagh were heavily congested as trains began to run at reduced frequencies and train operations became erratic.

“The situation at Rajiv Chowk was particularly bad. There was hardly any space to even set foot. It almost turned into a stampede as people people began losing their temper and patience. So, in order to control the situation, we stopped entry to the station. We allowed people in only after the rush eased off,” a CISF official said.

According to CISF officials, a couple of old women almost fell unconscious due to dehydration and were given first-aid. “We kept monitoring the situation and ensured that the situation was under control. There was a lot of pulling and pushing, but nobody was injured,” an official said.
