Six months after a woman complained against a Delhi Police officer for cheating and then threatening her,the Malviya Nagar police have registered a case against the accused.
The accused,Ashok Kumar (45),an assistant sub-inspector with the Vigilance Wing, had also cheated four other persons in a similar manner, the police said. These include a Delhi Police personnel and a senior citizen couple.
Police said the victim,Anita Saini,61,had approached the Malviya Nagar police in December last year alleging Kumar had taken Rs 8.5 lakh on the promise to provide a her two-bedroom flat in S-14,Khirki Extension.
Saini is the mother of a serving Indian Army Major. Sainis son-in-law,Rakesh Sharma, alleged when they pursued Kumar to return the money,he threatened to implicate them in a false case.
I came to know that Kumar is a Delhi Police personnel, who also doubled up as a builder. I met him outside my office in Malviya Nagar and told him that I needed a flat. He informed me about the said flat in Khirki Extension, and after seeing it,I broke a deal with him, Sharma told Newsline.
My mother-in-law pawned her jewellery for the required amount. This was in February last year and according to the agreement we signed,we were to get possession of the flat in two months. Six months passed and once when I confronted him,he threatened to implicate me in a false case of robbery, Sharma added.
He claimed the Malviya Nagar police did not take action on their complaint initially. I ran from pillar to post and finally met Hauz Khas Assistant Commissioner of Police Meher Singh. I told him about four other persons who had been cheated by the ASI,whom I had traced. It was only because of him that my case got registered, Sharma said.
The police have now booked Kumar under Sections 420 and 34 of the IPC. He has not been arrested yet.
If the allegation of threat is found true,a case under relevant sections will be registered against him,a senior police officer said.
