Finance grad held for extortion
After several real estate jobs,a finance graduate decided that if she had to make money fast,it had to be the wrong way: using her knowledge of finance for extortion. Out on her first assignment,she demanded Rs 5 crore from a businessman. The deal was settled for Rs 15 lakh and when she went to pick up the money,she found a police team waiting. She told the police that she needed the money for her parents’ treatment and her own marriage. Shifa (30) was arrested on Thursday for extorting money from Pradeep Kumar,who runs a company,Money Matters,in Shrestha Vihar,said OP Mishra,Addl Deputy Commissioner of Police,(East district). During interrogation,it was found that she had done her matriculation from Kendriya Vidhalaya,Tuglaqabad,graduation from Bhagat Singh College and Masters degree from Annamalai University.

She resides in Khanpur in Delhi and her father is a retired employee of the Air Force.

Man held for rape
The Delhi Police arrested a man,accused of raping a minor in the national capital,from Bihar. The police said 28-year-old Sanjit Kumar Sahaney had fled Delhi after allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl in Azadpur area in the city on the night of October 19. After preliminary investigations,a Delhi police team was sent to Samastipur area of Bihar,where the accused was arrested. The police said Sahaney is a neighbour of the girl’s family in the Bihar village and was temporarily staying with them in Delhi.

JNU alumni meet
The second alumni meet of the Jawaharlal Nehru University will take place from November 9 to 13. The programme will be kicked off with a seminar on “The Economic Situation of India and the World Today: Trends and Possibilities”. Seminars,book and photo exhibitions will be held over five days.

Another attack on NE student
In yet another alleged attack on a student from the Northeast,a Nagaland man was attacked by four to five unidentified men in Kotla Mubarak pur area of South Delhi on Thursday evening. According to the police,the incident occurred about 7.30 pm when the complainant,identified as Yanshum Thung,was eating at a Chinese joint along with his friend when a someone allegedly threw a piece of food at Yanshum. A brawl ensued. The complainant alleged that later,when he went to withdraw money from an ATM,four or five boys attacked him. Yanshum suffered injuries on his head and face. Yanshum is a MBBS student in Delhi.

Theft in VIP area
An inverter was stolen from a house of a major general of Indian Army few days ago. Police sources said major general SP Singh was not at his official residence,96,Lodhi Estate,when the incident took place. “We received a call from an official at the residence of major general that someone has stolen the inverter,” a senior police officer said. A case of theft was then registered . In another case of theft in a VIP area,the copper wire from an air-conditioner was stolen from the house of an Member of Parliament staying at 4,Talkatora Road.
