Noida,Ghaziabad to be connected with Delhi better
Major cities of Uttar Pradesh covered under the National Capital Region (NCR),like Ghaziabad and Noida,will be connected with Delhi through rapid transit system,the UP government said on Friday. “To connect major cities (of UP) in NCR with Delhi,regional rapid transport system (RRTS) has been proposed in 2021 masterplan,” UP Chief Secretary Atul Kumar Gupta said in a meeting. In the first phase,it had been decided to develop 67.8-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor with an estimated cost of Rs 1,040 crore, Gupta said.
Kobad wants chair,table in jail
Top Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy on Friday moved a city court seeking a direction to be provided with a chair and table in jail. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja directed the authorities of Tihar jail,where Ghandy is lodged,to consider his plea as per the prison manual. Ghandy,63,who was produced before the court,made the plea for the chair and table saying he required them as he was suffering from arthritis. The Maoist leader is also learnt to have been writing a book on his wife Anuradha. The court also extended the judicial custody of Ghandy till January 22.
MCD landfill site yet to get ministry nod
The MCD’s sanitary landfill site at Narela-Bawana in Northwest Delhi is yet to get a green signal from the Environment ministry,which is seeking details of its likely ecological impact on the area,especially the nearby forest reserve. The Rs 70-crore integrated solid waste management facility is proposed to be developed by a Hyderabad firm in collaboration with MCD and aims to meet Delhi’s garbage disposal needs for next 20 years.
