BJP workers’ protests and clashes delay list further

With party workers reportedly roughing up a senior leader, the party refused to make public the tickets list till late night.

As tension reached the boiling point outside the house of former national president of BJP Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday, with party workers reportedly roughing up a senior leader, the party refused to make public the tickets list till late night.

On Saturday, too, party workers had blocked the main entrance of Naidu’s residence. They are demanding a fresh scrutiny of the lists sent by the various districts and mandals.

“This is the first time that police have been called in to manage party workers who are angry over the selection process. This is one of the reasons for delaying the announcement of the list,’’ said a BJP party worker.

Mudita Gupta, councillor from Huaz Rani, said: “I have not been given a ticket. The name doing the rounds from my ward is someone who has never been a party worker and does not even live in this area.”

There were also reports of protests outside house of BJP state president Vijender Gupta.

Around 9 tickets are expected to go to Shiromani Akali Dal.
