BJP’s CM candidate Kiran Bedi.
BJP’s CM candidate Kiran Bedi, who was on voice rest for the past two days, spoke at length about her plans for Delhi on Saturday.
Women’s security, she said, is the biggest issue this election.
Addressing a rally for 17 party candidates, Bedi claimed that if she assumed the office of the chief minister, within three days, civil defence teams in plain clothes or uniform will throng public transport and public areas to ensure safety of women.
“In the first three days, I promise you, civil defence will be deployed on buses, Metros and in public places — either in plain clothes or in uniform. Every school will have self defence classes. Buses will have cameras to capture any sort of untoward activity,” the former IPS officer said.
Bedi also promised to strengthen the women ‘s helpline number 181 and ensure that each women has the Delhi Police’s ‘Himmat’ app on her mobile phone. Bedi said those who come to the help of women in distress will be monetarily rewarded. She also promised a radio show, Dil ki Baat — on the lines of PM’s Mann Ki Baat — with residents every month.
While Bedi focussed on women security in her speech, BJP chief Amit Shah said if a ‘dharna’ government is elected in Delhi, then development will come to a halt.
“Agar dharna dene wali sarkaar aayi to Delhi ka development New Delhi tak restrict ho kar reh jayega,” Shah said.
Taking a dig at AAP, Shah said people from Benaras are searching for Kejriwal in New Delhi constituency now. “He promised people of Benaras that whether he wins or loses, he will come back to them. He has not visited the city once since he lost the Lok Sabha polls. Now, people from Benaras are searching for him with a torch in their hand,” Shah said. He also took a jibe at former prime minister Manmohan Singh, whom he referred to as “Mauni Baba”.
“Mauni Baba too used to go to foreign countries and no one knew about it. Now, you see how Modiji is received in every international function,” he said.
Later, addressing a rally in Bawana, Shah challenged Kejriwal to name any BJP MP or MLA who have corruption charges levelled against them.
