The alignment of the third phase of the Barapullah elevated project, which will involve extending the elevated road from South Delhi to Mayur Vihar, proposes the construction of a flyover parallel to the existing single carriageway flyover along the UP Link Road near Mayur Vihar Phase-I. The new flyover will be build to facilitate movement of traffic from Noida towards Akshardham.
The elevated road is expected to descend at the grade before the flyover. The Public Works Department (PWD) has already submitted a plan for the construction of the parallel flyover. The stretch will also have a Metro station close by.
We had sent the proposal to the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning & Engineering) Centre for review around three months back. The proposed extension will include integration with a Metro station as well as the flyover at Mayur Vihar Phase-I. We have proposed that the flyover be extended and made into a two carriageway flyover. Loops will built to facilitate movement in all directions, a PWD official said.
Officials said PWD and UTTIPEC have held the initial round of discussions on the plan.
The third phase of the extension will include several interconnection, six loops and the main Barapullah extension.
The proposal will now be placed before the L-G for final approval. The connectivity of the elevated road till East Delhi has been given in-principle approval. The detailed plan to integrate the elevated road with the existing and upcoming Metro stations needs to be submitted by PWD before it can be placed before the L-G for approval, UTTIPEC director,Ashok Bhattacharjee, said.
Under the third phase of the extension,a new Yamuna bridge between DND and Nizamuddin bridge has been proposed to connect INA Market with Mayur Vihar. This extension of Barapullah to East Delhi will ease traffic congestion on Nizamuddin bridge and DND and help those commuting between East and South Delhi as they will be able to bypass the congestion on Ring Road.
Officials said a hydraulic study by a Pune-based research institute will be conducted on the new Yamuna bridge after which the plan will be submitted to DUAC and the Yamuna committee. The entire road will be constructed on stilts and will not disturb the Yamuna banks, the official said.
Work on Phase-II of the Barapullah elevated road has already begun and will see the corridor getting extended up till INA Market. At present, the elevated road starts at Sarai Kale Khan and runs till Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
The issue of the exit loop on Aurbindo Marg under this phase is still under consideration, an official said.
