Azad Singh BJP candidate for Mundka
BJP on Friday announced that Azad Singh,Mayor of North Municipal Corporation,will contest from Mundka Assembly constituency in Northwest Delhi. Earlier,the party had renominated Manoj Shokeen,it sitting candidate from the constituency,who had won in 2008 by a margin of over 14,000 votes. Party chief Vijay Goel said Shokeen will contest from Nangloi constituency. After being refused a ticket initially,Singh,brother of former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma,had resigned as Mayor claiming that he was the deserving candidate for the Mundka seat. In a letter to BJP President Rajnath Singh,Singh had even alleged that money had changed hands ahead of ticket distribution and deserving candidates had been sidelined.
403 candidates so far,nominations close today
A total of 403 candidates have so far submitted nominations to contest the Delhi Assembly polls with the process of filing of nominations set to close on Saturday,election officials said. The filing of nominations,which began on November 9,was closed on Friday on the occasion of Muhharam. A total of 267 candidates,including Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and BJPs nominee for the top post Harsh Vardhan,had filed their nominations on Saturday. After scrutiny of nominations on November 18,candidates can withdraw from the electoral contest latest by November 20.
Question Sheila over irregularities in DJB: Goel
In the wake of CBI probing alleged irregularities in award of projects by Delhi Jal Board,BJP on Friday demanded that Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit be questioned as she is the chairperson of the water distribution agency. CBI should question Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit,who heads the Delhi Jal Board,while investigating the scams, Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel told a press conference. The agency has registered three separate preliminary inquiries with regard to public-private partnership project with a European firm for supplying water to Nangloi,Malviya Nagar and Mehrauli. DJB has rejected the charges.
Advani not yet on star campaign list
BJP on Friday issued its list of star campaigners,including Gujarat Chief Minister and BJPs PM candidate Narendra Modi,Uma Bharti,Varun Gandhi,Smriti Irani,Vinod Khanna,Sushma Swaraj,Arun Jaitley,Rajnath Singh,Murli Manohar Joshi,Balbir Punj and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. Surprisingly,party leaders could not get dates from veteran leader L K Advani. ens
