With the autorickshaw posters gone,the AAP is now worried that their version of the Gandhi cap with the party symbol on it,may be taken away. Alleging harassment by the Delhi Police,the party has asked for a clarification from the Chief Election Commissioner on whether caps are a violation of the code of conduct. AAP officials said,“Even though AAP volunteers are peacefully campaigning for the party by wearing caps,the Delhi Police is detaining them for allegedly violating the code of conduct. Today,some of our volunteers were detained at Rajinder Nagar police station and let off later for want of a valid reason.” The clarification asks if wearing and distributing the caps,produced at less than Rs 4 per piece,is a violation of the model code of conduct. The caps,which are sported by all AAP volunteers including those involved in door-to-door campaigning,are an intrinsic part of the AAP campaign.

BJP councillor gets notice for posters at Ramlila

The Delhi Election Office on Tuesday sent a notice to Rajesh Gehlot,a BJP councillor and the chairman of South Municipal Corporation’s Standing Committee,for using a “platform of religious nature to further the electoral prospects of himself/his political party”. The notice said Gehlot was also trying to “gain possible mileage by prominently displaying his name and photographs at the Ramlila venue,which is in contravention of the model code of conduct prescribed by the Election Commission of India and other relevant instruction issued from time to time”. The action was taken after Gehlot’s name and photographs were displayed in banners and posters at the Ramlila Ground in Sector-10,Dwarka. Gehlot has been asked by the Delhi EC to furnish his explanation “within 24 hours from the receipt of this notice…”.
