Gangster Babloo Srivastava filed an application before a city court on Thursday seeking a reimbursement of Rs 56,500 he had deposited with the UP police for attending his nephew’s wedding.
Facing extortion charges before Additional Sessions Judge Shailender Kaur,Srivastava claimed in his application that he had given the money to the jail authorities in Bareilly, where he is currently lodged,as expenses for taking him to Barabanki to participate in a ’tilak’ ceremony of his nephew.
He,however, did not avail the custody parole despite allowed by the court in February and hence, was entitled to get it back, the application read.
ASJ Kaur issued a notice to Senior Superintendent of Police,Bareilly, and jail authorities and fixed the matter for December 16.
His bail application, however, was dismissed by the court, which noted that the case was at the stage of recording of prosecution evidence and keeping in view the gravity of the offence,it was not right to weigh the evidence at this stage.
Babloo, who was extradited from Singapore in 1995,filed the bail plea on the ground that Sheetal Prasad Singh, who had lodged the FIR against him and others with the Delhi Police Special Cell in 2003,did not state that the accused had threatened him or met him in Lucknow jail.
According to the police, the accused threatened Singh and forced him to meet Babloo and another businessman Nitin Shah. Singh was in the business of making high security registration plates since 2001.
