As Delhi gets intense showers, cop’s son, 12-yr-old and ragpicker electrocuted in separate incidents
In Dwarka's Bindapur, the 12-year-old was returning home from his tuition on Thursday, said police. His father said he got an electric shock near their house at around 7 pm.

A 12-year-old boy in Dwarka’s Bindapur, an 18-year-old ragpicker in Sangam Vihar, and a 28-year-old son of a Delhi policeman in Jaitpur — three people died of electrocution in around 24 hours in the national capital as the city recorded intense spell of rain on Wednesday.
In Dwarka’s Bindapur, the 12-year-old was returning home from his tuition on Thursday, said police. His father said he got an electric shock near their house at around 7 pm.
Police said that they received a PCR call at around 7:30 pm regarding the incident. When a team of policemen reached the spot, they found that the minor had already been taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead. At the site where the incident happened, police observed two plastic pipes containing disconnected electric cables. These cables were tied to a wall. Further investigation is underway, and a case under section 106 (1) of the BNS on causing death by negligence has been lodged.
In another incident, on Wednesday at around 8 pm, Anil (18), who hailed from Bihar’s Sitamarhi, was returning to his rented house in South Delhi’s Sangam Vihar after buying vegetables from the market. “When he reached near his house, he suddenly fell. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The cause of the death will be confirmed only after the postmortem report,” said DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan. Anil was a ragpicker and lived with his brother. The postmortem of the body is being conducted. Police said that prima facie it is suspected to be a case of electrocution.
In Jaitpur, police said that Prabhat (28), son of a Delhi Police sub-Inspector, died due to electrocution at his home in Meethapur at around 8 pm on Wednesday. “No foul play is suspected. While it was raining, he went to his terrace, he probably came in contact with the water tank alarm system. There are no eyewitnesses and the exact cause of electrocution is being verified,” said DCP (Southeast) Rajesh Deo.
BSES officials said that the Meethapur incident was a result of electrical current leakage from a water tank alarm system installed on the terrace, which came into contact with an open internal wire of the premises. They added that at Bindapur power supply was shut off in the area because of waterlogging. “The two plastic pipes containing disconnected cables, which were found emerging from underground, do not belong to the discom and appear to be internet wires. The exact cause of the incident is still not known,” officials said.
It added, “Our condolences are with the family of the deceased who died in Sangam Vihar. Preliminary reports indicate the area was flooded with approximately 2 feet of water. Photographs show the burnt internal wire in contact with the shutter, suggesting it is the probable cause of the accident. The discom’s network was not involved in this incident.”
