DU-DUTA talks: HC to hear matter today
After the mediation process between the Delhi University Vice-Chancellors team and the Delhi University Teachers Association broke down on Sunday,the Delhi High Court on Monday decided to hear the matter on the issue Monday. DUTA counsel Rajeev Kumar Tiwari said: The court heard views of both parties and has adjourned the matter for now. We will wait and see what happens tomorrow. The DU officials had earlier said that the DUTA was going ahead with its action programme even as talks were on regarding implementation of the semester system at the undergraduate level. The mediation failed in its fourth session.
Cabinet amends rate for tax on hotel rooms
The Delhi Cabinet on Monday cleared the Delhi Tax on Luxuries (Amendment Bill 2010) which will be presented in the upcoming Assembly session. The government has agreed to amend the threshold rate of rooms on which the luxury tax is charged. Currently the tax is charged on hotel rooms costing more than Rs 500 per day. In view of increase in the cost index of various services the Cabinet decided to hike the threshold limit from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 or more per day.
Guest teachers at govt schools to meet crunch
To tide over the situation of a skewed teacher-student ratio in the Delhi government schools,the Directorate of Education (DoE) has decided to engage guest teachers in the schools. The DoE has announced that all those schools where there is a shortage of teachers,guest teachers should be engaged by the head of the school on contractual basis. The subject-wise vacancies have been made available on the Directorate website and the date of registration is August 6.
ITI student,2 others arrested for burglary
A 19-year-old student of Industrial Training Institute was arrested in Outer Delhi two weeks after he allegedly burgled a house in Vijay Vihar. The police also nabbed his classmate Ashish Tiwari (20) and one Ranjan Yadav (21),receiver of stolen articles. The DCP (Outer) Chhaya Sharma said two more are absconding. A mobile phone,and gold jewellery was recovered
Tea stall owner stabbed to death in North Delhi
A tea stall owner was allegedly stabbed to death in his house in Shastri Nagar,North Delhi,at 10.30 pm on Sunday night. The family of the victim,Narender Sharma (26) alleged a helpers at the tea stall allegedly murdered Sharma. The police said Kalu is absconding since the incident.
