Soon,Tihar inmates to get personal info on touchscreens
Tihar Jail authorities are planning to introduce a touchscreen facility which will showcase information to inmates about their stay in prison and other personal details,for which they had to go through lengthy official procedures earlier. We are planning to introduce a touchscreen facility inside all jail premises, Sunil Gupta,law officer and spokesperson of Tihar,said. Information like mental and medical health,parole,medication updates,remission,release dates,case and crime info and visitors list will be available, he said. Gupta said the system will be developed to automatically calculate the sentences,remission and release dates without human errors. For safety of the data,each prisoner will be given a unique code number.
Tongawallahs protest against stable demolition
Displaced tonga-owners of Asaf Ali Road staged a demonstration in the Walled City on Monday to protest the demolition of a horse stable. Around 50-odd tonga-owners,led by Matia Mahal MLA Shoaib Iqbal,held a demonstration at Turkman Gate to protest against the demolition and the MCDs decision to phase out tongas from Delhi. They demanded that tongas be allowed to run the Walled City. They also demanded that an alternate site be allocated to them to set up a new horse stable.
HC awards Rs 7 lakh to father of 84 riots victim
The Delhi High Court has awarded a compensation of Rs 7 lakh to a 90-year-old man who lost his son in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Directing the government to pay the amount within eight weeks,Justice S Muralidhar said: It appears to be a genuine case where a 90-year-old father has been fighting for justice for the death of his son in the unfortunate incident… The petition was filed by S Hardayal Singh seeking a direction to government to grant compensation. According to Singh,on November 11,1984,his son Arjun was returning home in an oil tanker from Ghaziabad,which was stopped by a mob and set on fire. He was denied compensation as there was a delay on his part in registering an FIR.
