Man gets one-year jail for keeping stolen VCR

New Delhi: A person working in the Chinese embassy has been sentenced to one year in jail for purchasing a VCR from a teenage friend,stolen from the city police headquarters,13 years ago. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on him. A city court refused to accept the leniency plea of 35-year-old Dinesh Kumar for release on probation,on the grounds of good conduct and the fact that he is sole bread earner of the family. “Since keeping stolen goods is also an offence,he did not deserve to be released on probation,” said Metropolitan Magistrate Ekta Gauba.

Bouncers harass woman constable,assault kin

Noida: A Delhi Police woman constable was allegedly harassed,and the persons accompanying her beaten up,at a bar in Sector 18 on Wednesday night. Police said Poonam,accompanied by fiance Karan,brother Ankit and cousin Pratibha,had gone to a restaurant for dinner. “When she tried to leave,a couple of bouncers started harassing her by passing lewd comments. When her fiance and brother objected,they were allegedly beaten up,” said SP (City) Anant Dev. “A case of causing hurt,violence and intent to insult the modesty of a woman has been registered against the bouncers and two unknown assailants,” Dev said. The accused are absconding.
