New Delhi: To secure urgent medical aid for patients,especially poor,the Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi government to appoint nodal officers in all its hospitals. Justice S Muralidhar has directed the nodal officers to immediately attend to complaints. For the homeless,the court has ordered the nodal officer to coordinate with civic agencies and arrange for their accommodation.

Two held for beating friend to death

New Delhi: Two men were arrested on Sunday for allegedly beating their 28-year-old friend to death in Fatehpur Beri area of South Delhi after being fed up with his “casteist remarks”. The incident was reported on Saturday morning when the body of the victim,Jitender,was found near the village. His friends,Padam Singh and Mahesh,took him to a secluded place,beat him up and strangulated him,police said.

Techie held for impersonating MoD staff

New Delhi: A software professional was arrested for allegedly trying to open a bank account in the name of a senior official of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). Police said he wanted to cheat people by fraudulently selling defence lands. The accused,Gourav Kumar Singh (28),approached the SBI branch on Parliament Street,saying he wanted to open a current account for the MoD. Suspicious,the bank officials contacted North Block and were informed that no one had been sent to open an account. Police were informed and the accused arrested.

Two held for smuggling in memory cards

New Delhi: Two persons were arrested from the IGI Airport while trying to smuggle in thousands of cellphone memory cards worth nearly Rs 11 lakh on Tuesday evening,customs officials said. The accused,Gaganpreet Singh and Munish Dheer,had flown in from Hong Kong. Officials found 3,800 2-GB memory cards concealed in Singh’s clothes. He then led police to Dheer. Both were produced in court and sent to Tihar on judicial remand.
