Three swine flu deaths in Delhi
Three more persons succumbed to swine flu in the city,taking the toll to 55,including 20 outstation patients,officials said on Thursday. Meanwhile,15 swab samples tested positive for the H1N1 virus,taking the count of laboratory-confirmed swine flu cases in the Capital to 1,370 so far this year. Three deaths due to swine flu were reported in the last 24 hours. Two were admitted to the Apollo Hospital and another death was reported from Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital. With this,the toll reached 55,of which 35 are from the city alone, a Delhi government official said.
Yamuna water level recedes further
With the release of water from Haryana going down substantially,water level in the Yamuna receded on Thursday,although it continued to flow above the danger mark. An official in the Flood Control department said the water level,which had risen to 205.80 metres in the morning,came down to 205.58 metres by evening. The river is still flowing 75 cm above the danger mark of 204.83 metres. The official said the water level is likely to go down further by Friday evening as Haryana released only 38,985 cusecs of water on Thursday.
An alleged cellphone thief,who had escaped from custody in May 2009,was nabbed from Rajasthan by a CBI team and handed over to the police on Wednesday evening. The accused,Sanjay,was reportedly arrested by the Gurgaon police and charged with stealing a mobile phone on May 16,2009. But Sanjay managed to escape on two days later. His father,however,alleged in court that the police had killed his son in custody,after which a CBI inquiry was ordered.
Metro begins trial run on Badarpur line
The Delhi Metro began its trial runs between Nehru Place and Okhla after 9 pm on Thursday. The Metro is planning to commission this line,sanctioned in April 2007,by the end of this month. This entire line consists of 16 stations both underground and elevated.
