Court to hear Delhi blasts cases daily from July 8
A city court on Tuesday decided to conduct hearings of Delhi blasts cases on a day-to-day basis from July 8. The public prosecutor was to file the chargesheets against the accused on Tuesday,but said he needed more time and was granted another month by the court. Additional Sessions Judge Santosh Snehi Mann said that the proceedings with regard to framing of charges would be conducted against the 14 accused from July 8 on a daily basis. “It is good for the case as it will cut the time that the case will consume considerably,” said Iftikhar M Ansari,counsel for one of the accused. Meanwhile,Salman,an accused in the case,filed an application before court alleging physical and mental torture in jail. The court has sought a a response from Tihar jail authorities on June 5.

Tytler’s role in ’84 riots: CBI told to file response
After Lakhwinder Kaur,the widow of Badal Singh who was killed during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots,moved a revision petition in a Delhi court asking for further investigation into the role of Congress leader Jagdish Tytler,the court on Tuesday issued a notice to the CBI seeking its response. Additional Sessions Judge V K Khanna,to whom the case was assigned,has asked the CBI to furnish its response by July 24. The CBI has already given Tytler clean chits twice in the case of killing of three people,including Badal Singh in the 1984 riots near Gurudwara Pulbangash,citing lack of evidence against the leader and terming the witnesses “unreliable”.

Robbery in Moti Nagar,goods worth lakhs looted
A businessman’s house in Moti Nagar,West Delhi,was looted of cash and jewellery worth around Rs 4 lakh on Monday. Gurjeet Singh runs a catering business from his house,but was away with his family on Monday morning when the unidentified burglars entered his house,the police said. Singh had recently purchased jewellery for his niece’s wedding,which is on Wednesday in Jalandhar,the police added. A case has been registered.

11-yr-old boy crushed under speeding truck
An 11-year-old boy was crushed by a speeding truck in West Delhi late on Monday night. According to the police,the incident took place in Nangloi around 12.15 am when the victim,Mahender,was returning home after attending a wedding. He died on the spot and the truck driver fled with the vehicle. A case has been registered.

Residents demand better water supply in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: Mission Gurgaon Development,a local residents’ body,on Tuesday called for better water distribution in the city. The residents’ body said that HUDA had only two rising mains of 1300mm and 900mm,which were unable to supply the required quantity of water,particularly during peak hours. They added that at present,the population of Gurgaon is nearly 20 lakh,and as per the existing norms the residents require 80 million gallons a day (MGD) of water,which the waterworks at Basai village are not capable of delivering.

Merchant Navy student commits suicide
A 20-year-old student of a Merchant Navy institute was found hanging in his hostel room. The deceased,Sunil,has left a suicide note saying he was not good at studies and was beaten by the warden,the police said. A case has been registered and the warden has been arrested . His body has been kept in the DDU mortuary.

Crime Branch arrests notorious criminal
The Crime Branch of Delhi Police apprehended a notorious criminal of Rajasthan and claimed to have recovered one loaded countrymade pistol and two live cartridges. The accused has been identified as Vishal Chaudhary,27,who was also booked under the NSA in 2008. The police said Chaudhary has been involved in cases of attempt to murder,robbery,extortion,rioting,etc.
