JNU students vote against second term for V-C
Jawaharlal Nehru University students voted overwhelmingly against a second term for their Vice-Chancellor B B Bhattacharya on Tuesday in a referendum held to gauge their opinion about the proposed amendment to the JNU Act that would let the V-C continue for a second term. The result of the referendum,announced on Wednesday,showed that of the 2,741 students who participated,only 165 students voted in favour of a second term for the V-C.

Rs 1.55 lakh found in Metro
A Delhi Metro official found Rs 1.55 lakh kept in a tiffin box on Tuesday evening. The box,which was found on a Metro train after it had been vacated at Jahangirpuri station,was returned to the owner on Wednesday when he came to claim the box from Metro’s Lost and Found section at the Guru Teg Bahadur station.

Court pulls up MCD
The Delhi High Court has pulled up the MCD for “exploiting” a few nursing personnel by appointing them to a lower grade post but asking them to carry out the duties of higher grade staff. Terming that the practice amounted to “ad-hocism”,the court allowed 27 Grade-B nursing staff to get the benefits of Grade-A staff.

Seminar on RTI
To strengthen the role of RTI in a democracy,the 30th Delhi Chapter of Public Relation Society of India organised a seminar on the occasion of National PR Day at Ghalib Bhawan on Wednesday. “RTI brings the concern of the common man to the governance. It holds organisations accountable to the public. Interestingly,40 per cent of the people using RTI have not pursued any formal education,” said Wajahat Habibullah,Chief Information Commissioner,who was also the chief guest.

Two carjackers arrested
Outer Delhi police have arrested two interstate robbers who have allegedly involved in over 30 carjacking incidents and robberies in Delhi and nearby states. Officials said 19 cases have been solved with the arrest of Vikas and Ravi Nanda on Tuesday from Sonepat in Haryana. The police claimed to have recovered two countrymade pistols and a bike from their possession.

Woman commits suicide
A 27-year-old woman committed suicide at her rented accommodation in Sant Nagar,Southeast Delhi,on Tuesday. According to the police,the deceased Neeta Gaurang,27,was reportedly not keeping well for a long time due to which she was depressed. No suicide note was recovered,the police said.

Wife held for man’s murder
Ghaziabad: A 32-year-old woman has been arrested by Ghaziabad police from Nekpur village of Moradnagar for allegedly planning the murder of her husband,Aarif alias Gullu. The police said the wife,Bhuri,had asked her friend to kill Aarif. Bhuri,her friend Deen Mohammed and another accomplice in the murder,Nafees,have been arrested,the police said.
