500-bed ward to come up at GTB Hospital soon
NEW DELHI: A 500-bed ward will come up in East Delhi’s GTB Hospital soon,Delhi Health Minister A K Walia said on Tuesday. While making a round of the hospital,Walia said the decision to enhance the infrastructure at the hospital has been taken after taking the rising number of patients into consideration. Officials said a new Nephrology Unit will also be set up in the hospital soon. “With commissioning of this unit,the GTB Hospital will become the first government hospital in the Capital to have a kidney transplantation facility,” they said.

Indrajith is Gramin Bank chairman
GURGAON: S Indirajith,formerly a senior executive with Syndicate Bank,was appointed chairman of the Gurgaon Gramin Bank on February 15. Indirajith has over 30 years of experience in banking. In his first address to bank executives,he spoke of plans to provide banking facilities to every household and loans to unemployed youth.

Guru Gobind Singh varsity admissions
NEW DELHI: The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University announced its admission schedule for the academic year 2011-2012 here in a press conference. Releasing application forms,Vice-Chancellor D K Bandyopadhyay said that admissions to about 85 programmes at the university will be made through 48 entrance tests for about 20,000 seats across 11 schools of the university and 103 affiliated institutes. He said the university is planning to conduct CETs for MBA,MBBS,BTech and MCA at centres in 13 cities across India.

ABVP protests Jamia minority status
NEW DELHI: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest against the decision of the National Commission for Minority Education Institutions to grant minority status to the Jamia Millia Islamia at the busy Janeshwari Chowk on Tuesday. “Education is about creating opportunities,and this decision will weaken the Muslim community. Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad was very much against reservation for his community. Reservations like these give rise to corruption in the education system,” said ABVP State Joint Secretary Aashique Hussain.

Renovation plan for circle offices approved
NEW DELHI: The Delhi government,on Tuesday,gave approval for renovation of circle offices of the Food and Civil Supplies department across the Capital. The expenditure and finance committee of the Delhi Cabinet cleared the proposal in a meeting on Tuesday. The EFC also decided to release Rs 11.05 crore for the construction of a pucca building for a government school at Khichripur in East Delhi.

The work will be completed within 24 months.

Labourer found murdered in Jagatpuri
NEW DELHI: A 33-year-old labourer was found murdered in the premises of an under-construction MCD school,located in Jagatpuri area of East Delhi on Tuesday morning. The deceased,identified as Devender,was reportedly killed in a drunken brawl. Another labourer has been detained in this connection. A case of murder has been registered at the Jagatpuri police station.
