MCD may privatise sanitation at schools
Dissatisfied by the levels of sanitation maintained at its schools by its own staff,the MCD has decided to privatise the work. Schools in Shahdara (South and North) have been selected for the pilot project. Depending on its success,the model will be applied in other schools. We have identified 80-odd schools,where the sanitation work will be entrusted to private players for six months, said Mahender Nagpal,chairman of the MCDs Education Committee. The budget for the project is Rs 50 lakh.
Gang of four arrested for burglaries
Four youths allegedly involved in at least 22 cases of robberies and vehicle thefts were arrested in Outer Delhi,police said on Sunday. The arrested have been identified as Vijay Kumar (36),Asgar Ali (21),Shankar Dayal (25) and Vinod Kumar (22),Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Chhaya Sharma said. They were arrested on December 25 near Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. With their arrests,Rs 3.10 lakh in cash,two stolen cars,2 motorcycles,six mobile phones,gold and other valuable items were recovered.
Two get life term for landlords murder
A Delhi court sentenced two youths to life imprisonment for murdering their landlord,who they suspected of having illicit relations with a woman tenant. Additional Sessions Judge S C Rajan convicted Chandra Shekhar and Vijay Kumar Tripathy under Sections 302/34 (murder/acting in common intention). On September 4,2005,the decomposed body of Rizayuddin was found in a room at C-195,Madanpur Khadar Extension,which Shekhar had taken on rent. The police found that Shekhar believed Rizayuddin was having an affair with one Girija,another tenant,and hatched a plan with his friend to murder him.
Woman jumps into Yamuna,rescued
A 30-year-old woman allegedly jumped into the Yamuna in Central Delhi on Sunday but was saved by a life guard,the police said. The police said the woman,Seema,was in the city to appear for an entrance test in a BEd course. She was reportedly distressed due to regular physical abuse by her husband,and allegedly jumped from ITO Bridge at 9 am. The woman was taken to a hospital and is out of danger.
