Centre to decide on Afzal’s mercy petition: Sheila
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the Union Home Ministry will decide on the file pertaining to Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru’s mercy petition. “We have sent the file to Lt Governor for further action,” Dikshit said. She said Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna will put his view on the mercy petition and then the file will be sent to the Home Ministry.

Govt reviews CNG fare hike
With autorickshaw unions threatening to go on a strike demanding hike in the fare,the Delhi Transport department on Friday said it was examining the issue. The unions have been agitating since Wednesday after the Centre decided to hike the price of CNG. A senior official said the issue is being examined and all aspects will be considered.

Judge recuses from case against Sajjan
Citing personal reasons,a sessions judge today recused himself from hearing a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case after it was clubbed with another matter allegedly involving senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar. Additional Sessions Judge V K Goyal said: “Due to personal reasons,I do not want to adjudicate the matter. Let the file be placed before learned District Judge VIII with a request to transfer the same tosome other court.”

Lajpat blast convicts approach HC
Two convicts,sentenced to death last month for their involvement in the 1996 Lajpat Nagar blasts,submitted their appeals against the Patiala House court judgment in the High Court on Friday. “We are hopeful,” said Khalil Ansari,counsel for the convicts Mirza Nissar Hussain and Ali Mohammad. Mohammad Naushad,the third convicted,will file his appeal on Monday.

Cops close case after rapist marries victim
Ghaziabad: The police closed a case of rape against a youth after he married the alleged victim on Friday,officials said. The medical examination of the girl confirmed rape,following which the accused married the victim in the presence of family members,said the police.

Hoax caller held
Sukaman Tamang,a former employee of Ashoka Hotel,has been arrested for making hoax calls about bombs planted at the hotel.
