A city court on Saturday framed charges in an extortion case under the stringent MCOCA Act against extradited gangster Abu Salem. The court said no new offence had been added in the FIRs or the chargesheets,and all the offences were in knowledge of the Portugal court. Additional Sessions Judge Pinki said the Delhi Police has been able to provide sufficient material for prosecuting him in the case and the prosecution will present its evidence on May 17. Extradited from Portugal in 2005,Salem is accused of demanding Rs 5 crore from Delhi businessman Ashok Gupta.

Rain disrupt Metro services again
Metro services were disrupted for second time in two days due to a technical problem caused by the sudden showers. Trains were delayed for over 30 minutes on Line-3 (Dwarka Sec-9-Noida City Centre/Anand Vihar) around 6 pm. Metro officials attributed the delay to track circuit failure at certain points in Dwarka Sector-12 and Kirti Nagar section. A Metro official said the failure was due to rains,delaying trains for about 25-30 minutes from 5.30 pm.

Adulterated diesel seized,2 held
The Gaziabad police found 2 lakh litres of adulterated diesel in Loni,Ghaziabad,late on Friday night. The spurious diesel,hidden in tankers buried under the ground,was being sold to unsuspecting customers near Sena Dham Mandir. The police arrested two persons,Lalit Goyal and Ate Ram,residents of Delhi. Raghubir Lal,Senior Superintendent of Police (Ghaziabad),ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Former Armyman stabbed
Unidentified assailants stabbed a 65-year-old retired Army officer at his Old Faridabad residence in early hours of Saturday. Police said the deceased,lieutenant colonel (retired) Ramesh Chand Sachdeva,was sleeping next to his sister Neelam,42,who was also attacked. Since all belongings were found intact in the house,robbery as a motive has been ruled out,Deputy Commissioner of Police Shashank Anand said. Ramesh had taken voluntary retirement around 15 years ago,police said. A case has been registered against unknown assailants.
