Fraud using national emblem held
A member of NGO Crime Action Society,who had the National Emblem printed on his visiting cards,was arrested on Tuesday. The accused,Mohd Rashid,allegedly assured people involved in police cases that he could help them and demanded money for his assistance,the police said. Rashid was arrested after one Nargis,a resident of Chandni Mahal,filed a complaint. Nargis told the police that a case of attempt to murder was registered against her brother and mother and Rashid,who claimed to have close relations with the media and the police and held visiting cards with the National Emblem printed on them,had taken Rs 25,000,Rs 30,000 and Rs 60,000 at different occasion to help facilitate their bail.

Kidnapped boy rescued
A 10-year-old boy,who had been kidnapped,was rescued with the arrest of four persons,including a distant relative of the victim,the police said on Tuesday. The kidnappers had allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs 30 lakh. The accused have been identified as Sandeep Kumar (24),the relative,Sunil (26),Vishwas (20) and Phool Singh (28). The boy was kidnapped on April 24 evening while he way on his way to buy milk,the police said.

Ex-IYC president gets PhD from JNU
Former Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Ashok Tanwar was awarded a PhD by Jawaharlal Nehru University on Tuesday. A former NSUI chief,Tanwar headed IYC when Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi began the project of “democratisation” (direct elections,under supervision of a team consisting of former election commissioners) in IYC and NSUI.

Schools’ committee meets Dikshit
The Action Committee for Private and Unaided Schools in Delhi held a meeting with Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday about the recent DoE guidelines to schools that make it mandatory for a school to get the consent of its Parent Teacher Association before approving any increase in the fee. The committee members apprised the chief minister of their “objections” to the order.

Minister warns AFCON
PWD minister Rajkumar Chauhan warned construction firm AFCON on Tuesday that it might be blacklisted for allegedly delaying work on streetscaping. Chauhan announced the decision after conducting inspection of a few projects. The warning has been issued with regard to failure to complete the beautification work and development of green belt under the flyovers at the Rao Tula Ram Marg,Munirka and IIT.
