A Delhi Police constable’s service revolver was stolen while he had gone to check on a complaint of loud music being played beyond permitted hours. Constable Rajeev Kumar is posted at Nand Nagri police station. “A criminal,Danny,was celebrating his son’s birthday. He misbehaved with the constable when asked to stop. Kumar returned to the police station but found his revolver missing,” a police officer said. A case of theft has been registered and an inquiry ordered against the constable for negligence.

New rates proposed for Metro land
NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is planning to charge commercial rates from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in case it uses an allotted land for commercial activity. The MCD will table the proposal before the Standing Committee on Thursday. If approved,the DMRC will also have to get building plans of malls or stores on Metro station premises approved by the MCD.

Parents move court against school
New Delhi: Parents of 12 students have approached the Delhi High Court against the New Delhi Municipal Council Navyug Education Society’s decision to not admit their children in a school after their residential areas were excluded from New Delhi parliamentary constituency in delimitation. The petition is likely to be heard on March 26.

House allotment: Court asks for list
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court,hearing a petition alleging irregularities in the process of allotment of flats,has asked the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for a list of flat allotees under its 2004 housing scheme. The court was hearing a petition filed by Narain Das Arora who alleged discrepancies in the DDA’s allotment draw.

Class XII student commits suicide
New Delhi: A 17-year-old student allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Southeast Delhi apparently depressed over poor performance in Class XII exams. Mudit,son of a doctor,was found lying on the floor in his residence in Kailash Hills with a wire tied around his neck by his mother on Tuesday around 7 pm,the police said. He was rushed to AIIMS where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Batla House encounter: protest march
NEW DELHI: Members of the Students’ Islamic Organisation (SIO) of India held a protest march from Batla House to Jamia Millia Islamia and called for a judicial inquiry into the Batla House encounter on Wednesday. The protests came in the wake of the postmortem reports of Atif Ameen and Md Sajid,the two alleged militants who were killed in the encounter,being published in newspapers on March 19.

Land-grabber arrested
NEW DELHI: A 38-year-old alleged land-grabber was arrested on Wednesday. Hazi Shamshad Saifi (38),a resident of UP’s Muzzafarnagar,was apprehended from Mehrauli,Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal said. Saifi carried a reward of Rs 5,000 declared by the UP Police. He is involved in cases of land-grabbing and cheating since 2006 in Loni,the police said.

MCD official fined
New Delhi: The Central Information Commission has fined an MCD officer Rs 25,000 for his refusal to give details to an RTI applicant. The Commission turned down the officer’s claims of “shortage of staff” and “lack of enough knowledge”.
