Man attempts self-immolation
A man from Maharashtra on Tuesday attempted to immolate himself near the Parliament House demanding the renaming of Dadar railway station,in Mumbai,after B R Ambedkar. According to the police,Vijay Rustum soaked his left hand in kerosene and set it on fire at Vijay Chowk,barely 100 metres from the Parliament around 1.15 pm. The police said bystanders and police personnel immediately doused the fire. He was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where he was discharged after first-aid.

Firing near hotel in Walled City
Unidentified assailants opened fire near a hotel entrance in Jama Masjid area on Monday night. According to the police,the incident occurred around 10.30 pm when the hotel’s owner,Gulfam,was about to leave for the day. The police said a few unidentified men,who had covered their faces,fired three bullets towards the entrance gate of the hotel. No one was hurt in the incident,the police said. The police suspect personal enmity to be the reason behind the incident.

Men hit cop on duty,flee
A Delhi Police constable suffered minor injuries after suspected auto-lifters hit him with a car in Mianwali area,West Delhi,around 11.30 pm on Monday. Police suspect the assailants had stolen the car. The victim,Constable Yashpal,was patrolling the area when he suspected the assailants were stealing a car. Police said they escaped after hitting the constable when he went to apprehend them. DCP (West) Sharad Aggarwal said Yashpal is recovering.

Four arrested for fraud
The East Delhi police have arrested four persons for allegedly promising bank loans and cheating over 100 people to the tune of Rs 20 lakh. As per the complaint filed with the police,the four would offer hassle-free personal loans from a bank without much documentation and identification. Police identified the accused as Vipin Kumar,Sanjay Sharma,Sumit Jain and Ranjit Singh. Two cars,14 mobile phones and 18 ATM cards were also seized from their possession,the police added.

Man dies in accident
A 40-year-old sales manager died in South Delhi when his friend lost control of the motorcycle they were travelling on and hit a divider on the Ring Road,the police said on Tuesday. The incident took place near Safdarjung Hospital around 11.45 pm on Monday. The victim has been identified as Rakesh Negi,a sales manager with a private firm in South Extension.
