ay in supply of low-floor buses: HC slams contractors
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday pulled up Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland for falling behind the prescribed schedule for supplying low-floor buses to the Delhi Transport Corporation. The court warned them of cancellation of contract. The courts remarks came when Ashok Leylands counsel informed that 203 buses were available for delivery but the DTC was not taking them. The DTC counsel,however,told the court the buses could not be taken before they passed the prescribed tests. A total of 3,124 low-floor buses are to be given to the DTC. The DTC counsel informed the court that Ashok Leyland should have provided 875 buses till date,but have supplied only 60.
Stephens ex-vice principal sends notice to Thampu
Former vice-principal of St Stephens College,M S Frank,has sent a legal notice to principal Valson Thampu cautioning him against any move to get him to vacate his current residence without providing alternate accommodation. The notice was sent on Monday. In the event of any coercive action by you or any of your subordinates to get my client to vacate his current accommodation in the absence of alternate appropriate accommodation on the campus being provided to him and his family,my client shall not hesitate to initiate appropriate legal proceedings inclusive of criminal proceedings… the notice says. Frank was removed as the vice-principal on October 15 last year after his one-year term ran out. The college is yet to appoint a new vice principal.
JNU assault: hostel facilites withdrawn for students
JNU has withdrawn hostel facilities for the two students accused of being involved in Saturdays alleged physical assault of a woman student and her friend. The students will,however,be allowed to attend classes. The suspension will continue till the proctorial inquiry runs its course.
Warrants against Abu Salem
Extradited gangster Abu Salem was not produced on Wednesday by the Mumbai Police before two courts in the city,which prompted the presiding officers to issue production warrants against him. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kiran Bansal was to record testimony of witnesses in a case of alleged extortion lodged against Salem and Romesh Sharma,key accomplice of Dawood Ibrahim.
Excise dept official arrested
A superintendent of the Central Excise department was arrested by the CBI from Delhi for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh to close a case investigated by him. The complainant,CEO of a firm,was issued a showcause notice by the Superintendent (Central Excise,Sonepat) Ravinder Mohan. The officer demanded a bribe to close the case, a CBI statement said.
Fake meal passes: Man held
The police arrested a 36-year-old unemployed graduate for selling fake meal passes. The police claimed to have seized passes worth Rs 5.88 lakh from his possession. Rakesh Grover,resident of Janakpuri,was arrested from Punjabi Bagh on Tuesday. Grover was arrested following probe into a complaint by Sodexo SVC India.
