Police zeroing on hideouts of sarpanch killers

Gurgaon: Rakesh,the main accused in the recent killing of a sarpanch in Hayatpur village,had allegedly amassed a lot of property in areas around Bagpat and Meerut,police said. According to sources,a case under Sector 307,pertaining to attempted murder,was filed against Rakesh in 2007,after which he was lodged in Bhondsi jail for a year. “It was there that he made friends with other anti-social elements,” police said,adding that they have identified the hideouts of the accused,spread across Haryana and Uttar Pradesh,and are in the process of arresting them. Rakesh Yadav,the sarpanch of Hayatpur village,was chased and killed by four contract killers around 2 pm on June 23. Villagers had then nabbed one of the accused and burnt him alive. ACP (City) Sumer Singh,who had alleged links with the accused,was immediately transferred to IRB Sonaria in Rohtak after the incident.
