Man gets life term for murder
A city court on Monday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for stabbing a man to death over a petty feud two years ago. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 on Manoj Kumar,21. Kumar was apprehended by the police on May 14,2008 — eight days after he stabbed Sanjeev Kumar,32,to death at Timarpur in North Delhi.

Students vandalise school property
Students of a government-run school in Mukherjee Nagar resorted to vandalism after the authorities decided to shift the girls’ school to a different building. Sources said officials of the Sarvodaya Senior Secondary School had decided to the shift the girls to Sarvodaya School in Nehru Vihar from January 1. Upset with the decision,students,mainly boys,damaged the school’s property on Monday morning. The deputy director of the school said he had no knowledge of such an incident.

Cabinet nod to luxury tax exemption
The Delhi Cabinet on Monday approved to grant exemption to the Commonwealth Games organising committee on payment of luxury tax on hotel accommodation to delegates and technical experts for a month. The Delhi government has been granting exemption of luxury tax on important events like the International Film Festival of India 2002,World Half Marathon Championship and Pravasi Bhartiya Divas 2008. The amount of grant of exemption is estimated to be around Rs 30 crore.

Car crashes into shop
A Honda Accord car crashed into a juice shop in South Delhi on Monday evening. The police said the driver told them he “felt dizzy” after which he lost control over the vehicle. The police said the accused driver,Radhey Shyam,was in RK Puram,Sector-1. There were two others in the car with him. Around 4.45 pm,while negotiating a turn,Shyam lost control of the vehicle. Nobody sustained any serious injuries,police said. The police said driver’s report did not show traces of alcohol. Shyam has been booked for negligence at the RK Puram police station and the car has been confiscated.
