Abducted man rescued from Allahabad
Delhi Police on Monday claimed to have rescued a 21-year-old mentally challenged man from Allahabad,who had been abducted by an acquaintance on the pretext of getting him married. The police also arrested the abductor who was demanding Rs 15 lakh as ransom. Pradeep Panwar,a mentally challenged man,was abducted on December 10 from Hauz Khas area allegedly by 22-year-old Rahul Kumar Singh,a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur area. He was rescued on Sunday from Rambagh Station in Allahabad when Singh came to collect the ransom amount.

NDMC tax centres to open on weekends,holidays
For the convenience of the taxpayers,the New Delhi Municipal Council has decided to keep its tax collection centres open during the weekends and the public holidays in December. Counters will remain open from 10 am to 2 pm.

NDMC teachers awarded
The New Delhi Municipal Council on Monday awarded cash and memento to some of its teachers for outstanding performances. Parimal Rai,NDMC chairman,gave out the awards. Ten teachers of NDMC and Navyug Schools were awarded at Monday’s function.

Haryana lawyers plan strike
After demands for the formation of a separate Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in Gurgaon district to facilitate quicker delivery of justice,lawyers across Haryana have decided to stay away from work on Tuesday to protest against the demand not being met. “It will be a peaceful protest and we will not take out any processions,just abstain from work,” said Santok Singh,chief of Bar Association,Gurgaon district.

DU teachers strike
Delhi University teachers will observe a half-day strike on Wednesday against the proposed implementation of the biometric attendance system. Teachers will sit on a dharna outside the Executive Council meeting venue,where VC Deepak Pental plans to introduce the proposal for the third time.

Foreigners held with heroin
Three foreigners were arrested in the Capital allegedly with 1.5 kg of heroin on Saturday,the police said. Afghan nationals Abdul Mateen and Niyamatullah and Nigerian national Adeboll were caught near Gol Dak Khana on Pandit Pant Marg,the police said.

Woman found dead
A 29-year-old woman,Anju,was found charred to death at her residence in West Delhi on Monday morning,the police said. A case has been registered.

Two MCD officials penalised
Central Information Commissioner Shailesh Gandhi imposed a penalty of Rs 25,000 on two MCD officials on Monday,and at the same time,criticised the “systematic corruption” in the civic agency. “In the entire MCD system,thousands of tehbazari files are claimed to be ‘not traceable’. There appears to be some fundamental systemic corruption by which the allottees of tehbazaris are bled by corrupt officers by claiming that their files are missing,and it is necessary that some authority should take cognizance of this,” Gandhi said in his order. The CIC imposed the penalty on both the PIOs of MCD — P Bose (Licensing Inspector) and Ashok Kumar (Rent Collector) for not providing correct information.
