Anil Halder,father of one of the victims in the Nithari serial rape and murders,filed a petition on Thursday in Supreme Court for the restoration of death penalty to Moninder Singh Pandher,a key accused. The Allahabad High Court had overturned the death sentence given by the trial court to Pandher in September this year. Haldar,father of 15-year-old Rimpa,has asked in his petition the reason for Pandher acquittal in the murder while upholding punishment for Surender Koli,Pandher’s help.

Help held for blackmail
NEW DELHI: Following a complaint lodged with the Malviya Nagar police station,a domestic help and her four alleged accomplices has been detained by the police on charges of trying to blackmail her employee over pressing rape charges against him. According to the police,the woman was hired by the complainant through a placement agency in Kotla Mubarakpur,Royal Placement Agency. The complainant alleged that the woman was blackmailing him into paying Rs 5 lakh,failing which she would file a rape case against him. After the complainant filed a case,officials nabbed the help and her accomplices.

Fake driving licence:2 held
NEW DELHI:The police have arrested a 30-year-old man and his accomplice for making and selling fake driving licences. The main accused has been identified as Rahul,a resident of Sangam Vihar. Police have arrested his accomplice,Santosh Singh,a cybercafé owner. Police officials said Rahul was arrested near Nehru Place bus terminal on a tip-off. He has also told the police he had been preparing fake licences for the past three months. “He said he had prepared 50 driving licences for drivers,conductors and helpers on Blueline buses. He charged Rs 1000 per licence,” the police said.

Noida student goes missing
NOIDA: A second-year BSc student,Shivani Batnival,of Satyam Fashion Institute in Sector-62,Noida,is missing from the institute since December 15. According to the report lodged by the girl’s mother,A friend of Shivani,named Neeraj,had called her up on December 15 and told her that her daughter has gone to Nainital. “Neeraj told me he had called on Shivani’s mobile and she told him she was going to Nainital as she is unhappy with her life,” the report lodged with the Sector 58 police station stated. The institute told the police Shivani had not been attending the institute since November 9.

Metro appoints new director
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro on Wednesday appointed Kumar Keshav as Director (Project and Planning). Keshav will now be in charge of the upcoming projects of Metro Phase II. Following the July 12 Zamrudpur Metro mishap,then Director (Projects) Vijay Anand had asked for repatriation to the Railways,from where he had come on a deputation. Kumar Keshav had taken over as acting director soon after. Keshav,a civil engineer of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers cadre,joined the DMRC in May 2002 and served as Chief Engineer (Planning) and Chief Project Manager earlier.

Cooker burst kills woman
NEW DELHI: A 37-year old woman died in West Delhi on Thursday after a pressure cooker burst. According to the police,the incident happened in a slum cluster in Uttam Nagar. She died on the spot.

7 held for kidnapping
NEW DELHI: Seven people were arrested for kidnapping a Nepalese national for ransom. On Tuesday,police had received a complaint from the Embassy of Nepal that Harichand Rawal had been kidnapped on December 8. A ransom of Rs 5 lakh had been demanded subsequently. The police suspected that Rawal was being held captive in Himachal Pradesh. The kidnappers were arrested in Nalagarh in HP.
