Teen crushed under DJB tanker
A 14-year-old boy was crushed under the wheels of a Delhi Jal Board tanker which he had climbed to collect water from on Monday morning. The incident occurred in Indira Camp area on MB Road in Saket. Police said Asgar Ali,a Class VI student of a government school,was on the top of the tanker when its driver,seeing the rush of people who had collected to take water,attempted to drive the vehcile away. Ali fell and came under the tankers wheels. He died on the spot. The errant driver is absconding since the incident. We have impounded the vehicle, police said.
High Court fines NTC for mindless litigation
The National Textile Corporation Limited was on Monday slapped with a fine of Rs 50,000 by the Delhi High Court,which expressed its displeasure over PSUs indulging in mindless litigation. PSUs should not unnecessarily waste the time and the public exchequers money, said Justice V B Gupta,dismissing the companys petition against an eviction order passed by a trial court in March.
CBI pulled up for laxity in probe
The Delhi High Court on Monday pulled up the CBI for its sluggish pace while conducting a probe in corruption cases and asked its director to submit a report within three months over deliberately derailing investigations in a 20-year-old case. The courts directives came on a plea by a retired DESU engineer whom the CBI chargesheeted 20 years after the alleged incident of bribery took place.
Delhi blasts suspects to appear in city court
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja issued production warrants against three alleged Indian Mujahideen militants Mohammad Arif,Saifur Rahman and Arif Badruddin on Monday. The three are lodged at Sabarmati Jail in Ahmedabad for their alleged role in the Delhi serial blasts in September 2008. They will be produced before the city court on September 7.
Three held with fake currency worth Rs 8 lakh
Three persons were arrested with fake currency worth Rs 8.09 lakh on Monday. The police claimed to have traced the money to Malda in West Bengal. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Neeraj Thakur said: The fake notes were being smuggled into the country through the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal.
Decomposed body of woman found
The decomposed body of a 23-year-old woman was found from a pit in Dhaula Kuan on Monday. The police said the unidentified woman was wearing a pink shirt and blue jeans. Premlata was written on her arm,but we are not sure if that is her name, the police said. A murder case has been registered.
Online bill payment scheme launched
Gurgaon: Power consumers in Gurgaon and Faridabad can now pay their electricity bills online. The facility,launched on Monday,is available on the DHBVNs website http://www.dhbvn.com to about six lakh consumers in Faridabad,Gurgaon and Hisar.
