The police identified the arrested accused as Mithun, 22, and Mukul, 28.
A 49-year-old Army Colonel was assaulted and his valuables and belongings robbed by three men after he asked them for a lighter to light his cigarette, in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar Wednesday, officers said.
DCP (South) Chandan Chowdhary said they received a PCR call from the Colonel, Vinit Mehta, a resident of Chanakyapuri.
Mehta stated that on Wednesday night, he and a friend attended a seminar at the Taj Hotel and he went to drop the latter at his house in Triveni Complex, Malviya Nagar.
“Around 11.30 pm, at Triveni Complex, Mehta asked a passerby for a lighter, but the man abused him and caught hold of him from behind. The complainant then pushed the accused to the ground. Following this, the accused called two other men and they beat up the victim… When he fell dizzy, they took away his two mobile phones, money, credit card, and voter ID card,” added the DCP.
Police registered a case under IPC sections that include charges of voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery, dishonestly receiving stolen property, and Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention after technical surveillance and scanning CCTV footage.
Two persons, Mithun (22), a resident of Chirag Delhi, and Mukul (28), a resident of Sheikh Sarai, were arrested. A third accused is yet to be arrested.
Police said Mithun was involved in a case of theft in Mehrauli in 2018.
