Three months after the Airport Metro Express Line missed its first deadline for completion of work, the application sent to the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for inspection has been found incomplete yet again.
According to sources,a mock drill held on Sunday on this Reliance Infrastructure led Metro route also failed.
The CMRS has found over 14 items in the application missing. There are several documents missing in the application. I have written to the DMRC about the shortcoming. Only once the documents are complete and the papers are checked,an inspection date will be decided, R K Kardam,CMRS,told Newsline.
With this, the 22.7 km high-speed link is likely to see further delay in opening.
Meanwhile, sources said a trial run on Sunday at this upcoming corridor failed with the train stopping at the wrong halting point. Stations on the Airport Express Metro corridor have glass doors seperating the platform from the tracks. According to highly placed sources, during trials the train stopped at the wrong points and not in line with the platform doors.
The DMRC officials, however, denied that any technical glitches were found during the trials. The trial runs have been successful. No major glitches have been observed, said the official spokesperson of Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited.
They, however, did admit that the application for inspection was found inadequate. We received a notice from the CMRS asking for more documents and information. We will examine the additional requirements on Thursday and forward the observations to the concessionaire, said Mangu Singh,Director (Works),DMRC.
The clarifications and documents sought by the CMRS relate to station working rules, maintenance manuals and other safety-related issues. Papers relating to checks done by a third party Independent Safety Assessor also have to be submitted. Officials in the Delhi Metro said that a UK-based agency called Halcrow has been appointed by the concessionaire.
Earlier, the line was denied safety clearance by the CMRS after a two-day inspection in September due to several deficiencies.
