Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia Thursday wrote to 2,000 schools and colleges and appealed to them to organise programmes on “no use of firecrackers” for Diwali to control air and noise pollution in Delhi.
“The government of Delhi is conducting a campaign with the support of all the stakeholders and eco clubs. As such, your institution can play a pivotal role in this campaign. Your institution may accordingly organise various awareness programmes like nukkad nataks, padyatras, seminars, workshops etc by encouraging maximum participation of students. Further, students may be advised to carry the message of “no firecrackers” to their homes and neighbours,” he wrote.

While appreciating the government effort, teachers and principals said anti-cracker initiatives had been in place for the last 10 years, if not more.
“All schools have been running this campaign for a decade now through various activities like writing innovative slogans on the issue or organising peace marches” said Ameeta Mulla Wattal, principal, Springdales School, Pusa Road.
