Try as you might, but you can’t keep a stylish woman from her fashion roots for too long. Model Farheen Khan, once a ramp-scorcher and a colleague of Mehr Jessia,Madhu Sapre,Anu Ahuja and Namrata Shirodkar,is one example. Farheen (now Farheen Allsopp) is making big news in her adopted home London for her collaboration with celebrated milliner Philip Treacy.

The former Mumbai girl has started a concept,Fashion Exchange, along with Sheikha Raya Al-Khalifa,a contributor to Style.com Arabia. Fashion Exchange aims at bringing interesting cross-cultural shows to British museums. It is also supported by VisitBritain, the British tourist authority.

Allsopp’s first show, called The September Show, will take place at the Victoria and Albert Museum,in London’s swishy South Kensington area on September 5. “I’m collaborating with Treacy and Qatari abaya designers to create a modern take on a garment the West usually views as oppressive, while the

Middle East views it as one of style, modesty and expression,” shares Allsopp via email. “This show is about promoting cultural understanding while creating a platform for future collaborations and business opportunities in each others’ countries.” The event,a snobby black-tie one, promises a high dose of British glamour, with Prince Charles and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the emir of Qatar,as hosts.
